Every business owner knows that running a home-based business is like running a marathon. It takes loads of sweat and a hunger;
a desire, to run the race your way. It takes a stubborn streak and stamina. It takes courage and lots of Rolaids.
You take risks other people avoid. You take full control of your life. Your goal: run a successful small office or home based business.
Hello. Call me Phil. Thanks for visiting this website. Allow me to tell you a bit about myself and why the contents of my blog and this website will be
of great value to you. My background, originally in finance and accounting, shifted to information technology (data processing to you "old timers")
during the dot-com boom of the mid 1990s. I was certified by companies like Novell and Microsoft to install and manage small networks. I also achieved
Master certification on the Microsoft Office 2000 products. Since then I have specialized in assisting people in successfully running Small Office or
Home-based Offices (collectively called SOHO). My diverse background in both computer AND financial stuff is especially useful in our Web 2.0
world. Whether you are an owner/manager or a telecommuting employee, running a home-based business can require knowledge about
everything from using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and Excel pivot tables to configuring network routers and writing search
engine-optimized web page content. The mission of this website is to collect material that a small business owner/manager can use, come Rain
or Shine. Our topics are about all things SOHO! You have chosen to stand apart from the crowd; you run your own life YOUR way.
We believe our web content WILL help you achieve your goals; to successfully run YOUR home-based business.
Free Accounting SoftwareEver hear of a free lunch? These are stormy times with significantly greater numbers of people starving all over the world. Nevertheless, for those who really put their minds to it, it’s possible to still find ‘free’ quality stuff. If you have been surfing the Net for any period of time, you will have noticed by now loads of offers for ‘free’ stuff. This website is about running a home based business (AKA SOHO or small office/home office). Accounting is about business and life; it is a journal of what is going on every day in terms of dollars and cents. It is through accounting that you keep a record of all that happens in terms of financial transactions. Regardless of whether you are owner, partner, or office worker, these transaction mean earning income. Money you make pays for the important things in life like food, water, electricity, and going out to the movies. By keeping track of these things, you are keeping an accounting. Financial transactions in small home-based businesses can quickly grow complex. Suddenly it is impossible for one person to handle the work. You need a way to automate the repetitive parts of your daily list of tasks. Accounting software is one example of office automation. Have you seen the ads for free accounting software online? Don’t expect too much from a free software except a test drive; the ability to see how the software works with a real data. Just like an offer for a free lunch, you typically get what you pay for; a taste and a tease. Since it is free, it often can’t offer the same features and functions as that of a high-end accounting software. Most free software is simple and easy. It often can only handle a small number of accounts. Such software focuses mainly on simple accounting management. By taking advantage of free software, you can already perform the basic accounting tasks that paid software’s do. The question now is whether you should get ree accounting software or not. It’s only a download away but before anything else, there are some things that you need to look for in accounting software; you need to consider some issues. Large companies who want to promote products and marketing campaigns are now providing the public with free accounting software. You have to surf the internet diligently so that you can immediately take advantage of it. You can find a lot of free things online but you should be warned about scams. There are dishonest websites that tell surfers they offer free downloadable software. The site will ask you to provide personal information on their registration forms INCLUDING credit card information. Be careful. Legitimate websites that offer free accounting software will most likely ask for a name and a legitimate email address for their mailing list but NEVER financial information. Furthermore, if you do provide financial information, make certain you are on a secured page such as those provided by Paypal or Clickbank. While you are hunting for bargains, consider trial versions of the software. Often software is offered on a "test drive" basis providing you for a short period with a fully operational version of the product. By taking advantage of trial versions, you can experience the feel of the application and determine if it meets all your accounting needs. After the trial version, you can now decide whether you will purchase the software or not. Test driving a trial version does not involve any financial commitment on your part. If you don’t like the software, discard it and then look for another trial version. If you follow the tips mentioned above, you can use free accounting software even for your small business. Some manufacturers offer different functionality in the form of separate modules. By taking time to research your product choice, you can find intuitive, robust, and practical accounting software. Most free software can be downloaded without any complications. If you want to practice, take advantage of free software test drives as often as possible. Try them now until you find one that is a perfect fit. Note: This article was reprinted with either private license rights or permission from the author.
